Are there limits to creating your own reality?

Today’s Q & A is a response to a comment posted on a YouTube video of Dr. Lu discussing the power of the mind in creating your reality. You can watch the video here or at the end of this post.

Question: Are there limits to creating your own reality? Suppose I think of myself as four inches taller than I really am, then would I become taller?

Answer: There are no limits. However, you have to meet nature’s requirements.

Sometimes what we think we want isn’t what we need. You can want something, but if you don’t need it, you still can do it, but you have to reorganize, remodel all of your genetic code. It’s a requirement. Everything has requirements.

“You create your own reality” means when you meet the requirement of reality, reality exists. You can want this. But can you meet the requirements? Can you change your genetic code? Can you change your password? It is possible, you can download a new program. But in order to download this, you need to do something.

Creating your own reality doesn’t mean that you have an unlimited credit card, and you can go to the store and buy whatever you want. You can have an unlimited credit card, for example, but you still cannot buy a gun. You need a permit. You have to be 18 and have no criminal record. To get certain things you still have to meet the requirements; it’s not just that if you want it, you can get it.

At the spiritual level it’s infinite, all the possibility is there. But every possibility has a different requirement. You cannot say I want this, but I do not want to do the job. And on top of this, the job has to be done right. Otherwise it still doesn’t happen.

If we want something for our future, should we imagine it now?

Not necessarily, because at your level now you may not imagine what is really yours.  You may imagine certain things, but they may never exist in this reality—perhaps only in the dream level.  A dream is just a different kind of reality; it still tells you the truth.

We need to change our beliefs. This applies to our belief about our future.  We have to believe it will provide the best for us, no matter what.  Most people think they have to do more to plan for or control what happens in their future.  But the belief to have is this:  I will do less for my future and then Natural Law will operate to give me what is best for me.

You need to accept that everything that happens to you is for good. To maximize your practice and open up your life you have to change to this belief.  Everything is for good, so the past wouldn’t bother you because everything is for good.  But you have to believe it in your core.  Old clothes are a good example of this:  We hang on to them even though they are of no use and we never wear them anymore.  “Trying” to believe that everything that happens to you is for good is the hard way to go.  Everybody is capable of believing anything!  Look at the positive side:  Everything happens for a good reason.  It’s even possible to get bread for free!  Why not?  Maybe the baker owes you. When you think this way your life will change.  If you look at things this way you will see the good and you will experience the good.  We want to avoid bad, but we are looking for—expecting— bad, and so we get bad.  This belief—everything that happens to you is for the good—is a new tool for spiritual growth. One day, you go a different way to work and that causes you to miss an accident.  The new path is quick; you don’t have to pay a toll.  Why not try the new path?  The old path is still there if this tool doesn’t work for you. I’m asking you to open your mind.

Everything happens to you for a reason.  The reason is to help you grow and discover who you are. So all of fate is perfect. It’s just like a house:  you can close all the windows or open the windows; you can even use the windows as an exit.  Life is perfect.  Believing or seeing that it is perfect makes it easier to go through it.
